India announced squad: On January 18, the BCCI revealed the squad for both the upcoming ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Having won the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy in 2002 and 2013, India will aim to secure a third title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, with Shubman Gill appointed as the vice-captain.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma, along with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, hosted a press conference to formally announce the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI Series against England as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the Dubai.
A major highlight of the squad is the return of fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who last played an ODI during the final of the 2023 World Cup against Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was sidelined for part of the Sydney Test due to injury, has been named in the squad. Considering Bumrah’s fitness, Harshit Rana has been added to India’s squad for the upcoming England ODIs leading up to the Champions Trophy, ready to replace Bumrah if necessary.
Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh have been included in the squad, while Mohammad Siraj and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson have been omitted. Alongside, pacer Akash Deep has been ruled out of the squad due to a back injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
