The defending champions once again outclassed Sunrisers Hyderabad, mirroring their victory in last year’s final. This victory not only reaffirms KKR’s dominance over Hyderabad but also marks their opponents’ third consecutive loss.
Kolkata Knight Riders came out all guns blazing in the Powerplay, with Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana picking up three early wickets to put SRH on the back foot. Andre Russell added to the damage with a key breakthrough, though his spell proved costly.
Meanwhile, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy tightened the screws in the middle overs, making it hard for SRH to recover. Captain Ajinkya Rahane’s strategic decisions worked wonders, particularly when he reintroduced Vaibhav Arora for a spell in the middle phase. It was a brilliant move that led to the crucial dismissal of Heinrich Klaasen, virtually sealing KKR’s triumph.
Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled to find momentum in their chase, and as the saying goes, T20 matches are often decided in the Powerplay. The early bowling spells from Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana proved to be game-changers, shutting down any hopes of a successful chase. None of the SRH batters could leave a lasting impact, prompting a need for them to reassess their strategy. Kamindu Mendis and Heinrich Klaasen tried to turn things around, but the mounting pressure proved too much, resulting in a crushing 80-run loss.
KKR vs SRH: 1st Inning
Earlier in the match, Kolkata Knight Riders recovered well after a shaky beginning to post an imposing total of 201. Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi provided stability in the middle overs, with the latter delivering a well-constructed half-century.
The game took a sharp turn when Venkatesh Iyer went berserk, smashing a rapid 60 off just 29 balls. Rinku Singh then delivered a fiery finishing touch, pushing KKR to the 200-run mark.
