PBKS VS GT: Kings Outplays Titans in an 11-Run Thriller

PBKS VS GT: Punjab Kings kicked off their campaign with a thrilling 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.

Gujarat Titans began their chase with promise but suffered an early blow when skipper Shubman Gill fell in the final over of the Powerplay after a quickfire knock (33 off 14).

Then, Sai Sudharsan took the reins, batting superbly alongside Jos Buttler to keep GT in the hunt. Never allowing the required rate to get out of hand, Sai notched up a brilliant half-century before departing for a well-made 74 off just 41 deliveries. Impact Player Sherfane Rutherford then teamed up with Buttler, launching some powerful hits to push the Titans closer. However, Buttler’s dismissal immediately after his fifty came at the worst possible time. With the asking rate rising, the lower order couldn’t quite pull off the chase, falling short by just 11 runs.

Earlier in the match, Punjab Kings put up a formidable total of 243/5, powered by a brilliant 97* from skipper Shreyas Iyer—his highest-ever IPL score. He was well-supported by explosive cameos from young Priyansh Arya (47 off 23) at the top and Shashank Singh (44 off 16) in the final overs.

For Gujarat Titans, Sai Kishore stood out with the ball, picking up three wickets, though the rest of the bowling unit struggled to contain runs.

Punjab Kings will be relieved to have secured the win, though the match turned out to be much tighter than they would have liked. Glenn Maxwell provided an early breakthrough, but Gujarat Titans kept the scoreboard moving steadily in the middle overs. The tide turned when Vyshak Vijaykumar, brought in as the Impact Sub, delivered two economical overs that put GT under pressure. In the crucial death overs, Arshdeep Singh stepped up, claiming key wickets to ensure Punjab’s victory.
