The Super Giants have started their IPL 2025 campaign with a strong start. Despite a few late hiccups, their dominant performance in the first half of the chase ensured the result was never in doubt. Abdul Samad’s finishing touch also helped boost their net run rate. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their first home defeat of the season, leaving them with disappointment over their overall performance.

Chasing 191 for victory, the Super Giants suffered an early setback when Mohammad Shami removed Aiden Markram for just 1 run, but LSG stayed composed. Nicholas Pooran played aggressively, while Mitchell Marsh found the gaps consistently, forming a game-changing 116-run partnership off just 43 balls.

Though LSG lost wickets at intervals, the required runs were wrapped up swiftly toward the end. Pooran was the standout performer, smashing 70 runs in just 26 deliveries. Meanwhile, Mitchell March also struck a half-century.

In the final moments, Abdul Samad and David Miller sealed the victory, with Samad’s quickfire 22 off 8 balls and Miller’s 13 off 7 guiding the Super Giants to a comfortable five-wicket win with 23 balls to spare.

Sunrisers Hyderabad found themselves short of a challenging total and desperately needed early wickets in the Powerplay. Mohammad Shami provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Markram, but that was the only moment of relief for SRH. After losing Markram, Pooran and Marsh hammered consecutive boundaries, putting SRH under pressure.

SRH skipper Pat Cummins tried to keep his team in the contest by claiming a couple of wickets, while Zampa and Harshal also contributed, but the boundaries kept flowing. The game was all but sealed in a short span, with former SRH player Abdul Samad finishing unbeaten on 22 off just 8 balls.

SRH vs LSG: 1st inning

Earlier in the match, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first. His decision paid off quickly as Shardul Thakur struck twice in consecutive deliveries, giving Pant a boost of confidence.

Travis Head launched a counter-attack but fell (47) just short of his half-century. The spinners, along with Prince Yadav, managed to keep things under control, but SRH struggled to accelerate, especially after Heinrich Klaasen’s unfortunate run-out. Several batters played brief yet impactful innings, but none could anchor the team to a competitive total.

For LSG, Thakur picked up four wickets, while Yadav was the most economical bowler with an economy rate of 7.25, helping restrict SRH to under 200.
